Mobilizing to prevent violence against adolescents
The project aims to enable UQAC to mobilize Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (SLSJ) partners from institutional (secondary schools), community (e.g., shelters for women victims of violence, CALACS), and Aboriginals (Aboriginal friendship centres) regarding the problem of violence in romantic relationships.
Then, this project aims to train SLSJ workers and teachers on violence in romantic relationships so that they are more able and competent to intervene on this problem during adolescence. The project is aimed at students in Secondary 4, i.e., teenagers aged 14 and 15. They will be reached through their teachers and by the workers at these schools (e.g., psychologists, social workers, psychoeducators).
Finally, with the partners involved and the workers trained, this project aims to achieve de facto equality through the implementation of interventions aimed at to prevent violence in romantic relationships (physical, psychological and sexual) among adolescents and to increase egalitarian relationships between adolescents.
In the longer term, the completion of this structuring project will allow the partners to act in concert at the SLSJ to guide practices aimed at preventing and countering violence in romantic relationships in all its forms from adolescence.
